Red Angus

Red Angus genetics put forward a reliable foundation for traditional Angus traits (moderate size, easy calving, good mothering) along with distinctive Red Angus qualities, such as, uniformity, good disposition, and outstanding food conversion.  All of these characteristics are backed by a registry that is known for providing the industry's most precise, reliable and comprehensive genetic predictions and commercial marketing program. The Red Angus is frequently compared to the Aberdeen Angus in conformation, size and carcass.  They are medium to large framed with sound feet and legs.  As suggested by their name, they are red in color and when crossed with other Red Angus usually breed true to that color.  They are a naturally polled breed and carry that gene as a dominant characteristic.  Red Angus females calve easily, have good mothering instincts and top milk quality.  Their superior carcass yield and fast maturity rate place them at the top of breeds selected for commercial operations.  Red Angus handle harsh weather conditions and are easy to handle and easy keepers.

Black Angus Lowline

We chose Black Angus Lowlines because they are a small cattle breed that does well on small acreage and finish well on grass.  These cattle have tested well for weight gain, feed intake, reproductive performance, milk production, carcass yield and structural soundness.  While their predominant color is black, red gene expressions have been noted. Due to their size, this breed has become popular  as a starter breed for younger 4-Hers.  They are generally easier to handle and fit for youth showman.  While these cattle only produce about 400 lbs of meat due to their smaller size, their dressing percentage is higher than the larger cattle at about 60%.  They are known for extremely large rib-eyes with taste, texture and tenderness being considered excellent.  They can be raised on about half the feed of a full size cow and wean more pounds of calf per acre.  Equipment requirements are minimized thereby diminishing equipment costs for the operation.
